Residents Report Rash of Air Conditioner Thefts

Heat is considered the culprit that has spawned a rash of air conditioner thefts reported through local law enforcement agencies in past days.

One such theft was reported by a resident of the Turnpike in northern Lawrence. The resident reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies that the window-type air conditioning unit had been running when he left his home to go to work. When he returned, he discovered it had been removed from the window and was nowhere to be found.

In a similar incident, a former resident of Highway 43 North told deputies that she had recently moved from the home. When she returned on Sunday to clean the house, she discovered that the window unit had been stolen.

These, as well as other crimes, remain under investigation at the current time through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information regarding either of the crimes is encouraged to contact the department at 931-762-3626.
