Residents And Officer Report Attack By Vicious Dog

A police officer flagged down by residents of a Lawrenceburg neighborhood last weekend in the wake of an attack by a “vicious dog” quickly found himself on the receiving end of a similar attack.

According to reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department on Sunday, August 2, the officer was patrolling in the area of Hoover Street when he was flagged down by a resident. The man told the officers that a neighbor’s Pit Bull Terrier was running loose and had tried to attack him while he was working on a boat in his yard. The resident stated that he was forced to “pick up a four-foot level to get him off me.”

When the dog turned from the man, he reportedly moved on to a neighbor’s yard where he allegedly attempted to attack them, as well. They reported that the animal then returned to his own back yard on Smith Avenue.

The officer reports that he walked to the rear of the home to check on the dog, “and the dog came at me.” He reported that the dog’s attention then turned to a child riding past on a bicycle.

According to the officer the dog “took off after” the youngster. The officer quickly began to yell and flail his arms about in an attempt to regain the dog’s attention. He was successful, and reports that he and neighbors were able to contain the dog until the owner returned home.

As a result of the incident the owner was issued a citation, charging her with allowing her dog to run at large. She will be required to answer the charge through Lawrenceburg City Court on Friday, August 14, 2009.
