Meth Lab Found At Dumpsite

Local drug agents summoned to investigate suspicious items at a dumpsite discovered that someone had established a makeshift meth lab there.

On July 31, the owner of the land reported to drug agents with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department that he had found items, including a bottle with a hose attached, at the dump area near Swimming Hole Road.

When they arrived to look over the items agents report they recognized one contraption as “a generator for making hydrochloric gas” – a step in the production of the drug methamphetamine.

Agents quickly secured the scene, roped off the area, and moved the property owner to a safer location. After gaining consent to search further, agents report they seized a number of items used in the production of meth. Seized were:  a salt generator for the “gassing of meth oil,” flashlight, propane tank, three lengths of tubing, two Mason jars containing an unidentified liquid, stirring utensils, twenty coffee filters, a roll of aluminum foil, a bottle of peroxide and a roll of duct tape.

Once the investigation was completed agents undertook the cleanup of the lab, which was completed in a safe and timely manner.

Reports show that no suspects were present at the time the operation was undertaken. Investigation into the matter, however, is on-going at the present time through the department’s Crime Suppression Unit.
