Neighbor Alerts Police To Wednesday Burglary

Just as local law enforcement agents have recently urged residents to do, a neighbor is credited with alerting police to a burglary-in-progress Wednesday evening that resulted in one arrest.

The neighbor placed the call for assistance shortly before 6:00 p.m., notifying Lawrence Central Dispatch to send police officers to a vacant house located at 211 First Avenue. He indicated that a man had walked onto the front porch and began busting out the front door glass with a baseball bat, then headed inside. The witness reported the man was wearing a white T-shirt and jogging pants.

When officers arrived at the scene they covered both the front and rear entrances. Officers then made entry, announcing their presence several times. They report no one answered.

While searching the structure, they report finding the suspect hiding inside a closet in an upstairs bedroom. Reports indicate he was sweating and that he was bleeding from his wrist. Officers ordered the man out of the closet and report he had a baseball bat down the back of his T-shirt. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Lawrence County Jail without incident.

The burglar was identified as Gary Brandon McGee, 35, of 239 Jackson Avenue, Lawrenceburg. McGee was booked through the jail under charges of burglary, vandalism, and possession of a burglary tool. He is scheduled for an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Session Court on Thursday, September 2, 2010.

Reports indicate that damages sustained by owner Johnny Garland total approximately $250.
