Authorities Investigate Allegation Of Assault

Law enforcement officials have initiated an investigation into allegations that a woman was assaulted at the Aldridge/Frazier Road intersection in Leoma shortly before 12:00 Friday night.

The twenty-one year old victim reported to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department that she had gone to the area to pick up a friend. She said that she had stopped at the intersection to speak with an acquaintance when a nineteen year old woman approached her window.

The victim said that the woman asked her questions about her contact with a male acquaintance and that she began to roll up her window. She told deputies that the woman placed her hands on the window and that when she told her to remove her hands, the woman struck her in the face.

The victim told deputies that she drove away, but that the woman followed her in a vehicle driven by another female. She said that the women followed her for a time, then turned onto another roadway.

The victim reported that she had driven home, placed a 911 call, then went to the emergency room for medical treatment. Reports show that swelling to the victim's left eye was documented through photographs. She was advised of the process she would need to go through to seek prosecution.
