Woman Arrested For Attacking Husband With Chair

A resident of West Point Road was arrested late last week after she allegedly busted through the back door of her home and assaulted her husband with a chair.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report that when they arrived at the home around noon Friday, the woman was standing with her two children beside her vehicle talking on her cell phone. They indicate that she had blood on her face and clothing and reported that her husband had struck her in the face with his fist.

Deputies found that the rear door of the home had been busted open. The door frame had been completely ripped away and was lying in the yard. The husband, age 43, was sitting at the kitchen table. He, too, had blood on his clothing and had sustained a number of cuts and abrasions to his arms, face and head.

The man told deputies that he and his wife had argued early that morning When she left to take the children to a doctor’s appointment, he reports that he began securing all the doors and windows, even going so far as to push a air conditioning unit from a window so that he could lock it. He said he then left messages with his wife’s cell phone, telling her not to come home “until she cooled off.”

When his wife arrived home with the children, he reports that she became angry when she was unable to enter the home. He said she began striking the rear door, beating upon it until she busted through. At that point, he reports he ran to a bedroom and placed a 911 call for help.

The victim reports that his wife pushed her way into the bedroom, grabbed a wooden chair, and began beating him with it. He said that he fought back, striking her in the face with his fist.

Deputies indicate the victim was struck in the head several times with the chair. In addition he sustained punches to the face as well as bites to the chest and back.

Deputies placed the wife, Nora Ann Beckett, 46, under arrest on charges of aggravated domestic assault and domestic vandalism. She was transported to the Lawrence County Jail without further incident.

Reports indicate that the children did not witness the assault.

Beckett is scheduled to answer the charges through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on August 17, 2009.
