Intruders Attack Sleeping Man

Law enforcement officials were summoned to investigate in the early hours Sunday when individuals pushed their way into a Manor Drive home and assaulted a sleeping man.

The resident summoned Lawrenceburg Police Officers to the home around 1:35 a.m., indicating that three men had come to his home and shoved past him to gain entry. He reported that they were asking for a friend, who at the time was asleep on his couch. When they gained entry, he reports that one of the men began beating the man about the face and head with his fists.

Officers report the victim sustained a broken front tooth, a knot behind his ear, and an injury to his left eye. He complained of dizziness and was subsequently transported by ambulance to Crockett Hospital for medical attention.

The victim told officers that the attack was the result of an incident that occurred about a week before when “he was supposed to have struck one of the men with a vehicle” while at an area creek.

The primary aggressor in the case, Derrick Dewayne Giles, 21, of 225 Hood Hollow Road, Five Points, was located on Seventh Street a short time later. He was placed under arrest on charges of aggravated assault and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.

Officers note that Giles confessed to the crime. He is scheduled for an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on September 4, 2009.
