City/County Formulate New Plan For Disposal Of Demo Materials

Lawrenceburg and Lawrence County officials have teamed up to formulate a new method by which area residents will soon dispose of demolition debris.

While residents with demolition debris must currently have fees assessed at the Lawrenceburg Streets Department on Ezell Drive before carrying it to be offloaded at the city-owned demolition landfill on Wildcat Ridge, soon this will no longer be the case.

Members of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Commissioners voted Thursday to approve a lease/purchase agreement in order to obtain a roll-off truck that will be used for the new system of demo debris disposal.

Under the new plan, the city will provide the roll-off truck, while the Lawrence County Government will purchase roll-off dumpsters to be used in conjunction with the truck. Once these are in place, citizens will be allowed to transport demolition materials to the Lawrence County Solid Waste Transfer Station on Baler Drive, where residents currently dispose of other types of trash and debris.

Once demolition materials are offloaded at the transfer station site, city workers will then haul the debris to the Wildcat Ridge landfill for disposal. Once the system is in place, the demolition landfill will no longer be open for use by the public.

Under the new plan, officials indicate that individuals, businesses and industries will be better served. In addition, officials expect that the new system will allow new revenues to be generated.
