Charges Issued In Domestic Assault Case
A local man was jailed last week after police officers were summoned to intervene in a domestic altercation inside his home.
Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that Joseph Ray Gray, age 32 was arrested on charges of aggravated domestic assault last Monday.
Officers had been dispatched to Gray’s 1660 Old Florence Road home shortly after noon. It was there that the female victim, age 37, told them that her boyfriend had assaulted her.
According to the victim, she and Gray had become engaged in an argument after she told him she wanted to get a job. She said that during the argument he told her to move out, so she went into the closet to pack her bags. She said that Gray followed her into the closet, grabbed her by her hair, and slammed her into the wall multiple times. Officers noted finding a large hole in the closet wall “shaped like the victim’s back”.
The victim said that Gray had left her in the closet and returned to the bedroom where he destroyed his phone with a hammer. She said that he wielded the hammer in a manner that suggested that he would strike her in the head, but that he instead struck the wall beside her head. Officers noted finding a hole in the closet wall.
The victim reported that her two daughters, ages 10 and 6, were inside the home at the time of the argument and assault. The girls told officers that they had not seen much of the altercation, but had heard Gray “yelling curse words” and their mother screaming. They said that they tried to get into their mother’s room, but were unable to do so because the door was locked.
When officers made contact with Gray he allegedly told them that “Whatever (the victim) said was true.” He was incarcerated without further incident. He has been scheduled an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on August 10, 2015.
