Intoxicated Pedestrian Blocks Traffic

Police officers were summoned to intervene Tuesday when an intoxicated pedestrian held up traffic at a Lawrenceburg intersection.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Mahr Avenue and Brannon Street around 5:30 Tuesday afternoon.

A female motorist reported she had stopped at the intersection when a man stepped in front of her, blocking her path. Although she attempted to get him to move, she said he was adamant that he was “not going to move until she agreed to give him a ride.”

The officer was able to quickly gain control of the situation. He reports that the man, Timothy Melvin Adkins, 52, of 1833 Mahr Avenue, smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage and appeared to be intoxicated.

The officer notes that because he felt that Adkins posed a danger, at least to himself, he was placed under arrest on a public intoxication charge and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center without incident.

Adkins is scheduled to appear in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on September 1, 2011.
