Authorities Investigate Accidental Shooting

Local law enforcement officials were summoned to the scene of an accidental shooting during the weekend during which a Leoma man apparently shot himself in the leg.

When they arrived at the Rabbit Trail Road home around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies report they found the victim on the carport of the home. He had sustained a single gunshot wound to the inside of his right leg, just above the knee.

The victim, age 43, told deputies that he had been cleaning his Remington Speedmaster .22 caliber rifle when it discharged, striking him in the leg.

The victim was transported to Crockett Hospital for medical attention.
