Policemen Combat Intoxicated Drivers

Local policemen have been on the alert in recent days in an effort to combat intoxicated drivers.

Craig Dean Young, 59, of 106 Bluff Drive, Lawrenceburg was arrested Friday afternoon on drunk driving charges.

According to reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department officers made their way to the Lawrence County Board of Education building on Mahr Avenue shortly after 4:30.

Witnesses reported Young had driven his car from Frank Street, across the street, through a grassy area, and into the board’s parking lot. After crashing into a parked car, Young’s car came to rest at the rear of the building.

Young was arrested on charges of driving on a revoked driver license, failure to maintain a lane of travel, failure to exhibit due care, and violation of the insurance law.

Young will answer the charges through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on September 2, 2011.

On Saturday an office on patrol reports he narrowly escaped a head-on collision when a drunk driver veered into his lane of travel.

Reports show that the officer was in the process of responding to a call in the vicinity of Crockett Hospital, when his patrol car was nearly impacted by a black car. The officer reports he was forced to swerve in order to avoid the collision.

During a subsequent traffic stop Casey Layne Deane, 27, of 210 Captain Drive, Ethridge was arrested on charges of first offense DUI, failure to maintain a lane of travel and reckless driving.

Layne is scheduled to answer the charges through general sessions court on September 2, 2010.
