Truck Is Stolen, Abandoned, Stolen, Abandoned, Recovered
A truck reported stolen by a Lawrence County man last week was found abandoned in Giles County, stolen again, then found abandoned for a second time along a Giles County roadway.
The resident of 1950 Norton Road reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies last Thursday that an acquaintance had been at his home that evening, “trying to get someone to drive him somewhere.” When no one agreed to do so, the resident said he asked to borrow his 2001 Ford F-150. The resident told deputies he refused, then went to bed.
A second resident told deputies he had been watching television when the first resident went to bed. He said the visitor stated, “If anybody asks I stole the truck,” then walked out the door.
It was around 2:30 a.m., the truck owner reported, that he received a telephone call, indicating that his truck had been abandoned at the home of a Minor Hill couple. The driver had reportedly fled on foot. The couple told him that there was a central unit loaded on back of the truck.
The owner made arrangements to pick the truck up in the morning, then headed back to bed. Before he was able to re-acquire his truck, the victim told deputies the suspect stole his truck a second time.
Reports filed through the sheriff’s department indicate that the truck was later located by members of the Giles County Sheriff’s Department, abandoned. It was towed pending further investigation. Reports place the victim’s loss at $18,535.
In a separate case under investigation by detectives with the department, the owner of HP Custom Cycle in Leoma reported his business was burglarized overnight Thursday. The owner told deputies a garage door was damaged and his two-ton central unit stolen. Blass was broken from a door at the rear of the building. Inside, the owner discovered that copper wire was missing along with the breaker box and a computer desk.
