Scholl To Undergo Mental Evaluation

A Lawrenceburg man accused in the July 19 murder of his wife has been ordered to undergo a mental evaluation.

Samuel James Scholl, 29, was arrested on one count of first degree murder in the wake of the death of his wife, thirty-three-year-old Polly Anna Scholl. She reportedly died as the result of injuries she sustained in a domestic altercation inside her Oak Grove Apartments home.

Lawrenceburg Police Chief Judy Moore reported at that time that officers with her department were initially summoned to a home on Clayton Street that evening, on an unwanted person call. The unwanted person, officers reported, was gone upon their arrival. Witnesses, however, reported they feared the man had harmed his wife.

Officers quickly made their way to the couple’s apartment. When the manager opened the door to the home, officers report they found Polly Anna Scholl lying on the hallway floor, “covered in blood.” Scholl had reportedly sustained several serious injuries, including injuries to her head and stab wounds.

Employees of the Lawrence County Ambulance Service transported Scholl to Crockett Hospital. She was later airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where she died as the result of her injuries.

Samuel Scholl was quickly apprehended and transported to the Lawrence County Jail. He had been scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on the matter in Lawrence County General Sessions Court Tuesday morning. Instead, however, Scholl’s attorney, Public Defender Richard Dunnavant, requested that his client undergo a mental evaluation before the legal process moves forward. Judge Patricia McGuire agreed. Additional legal action has been postponed for a period of up to sixty days, until the mental evaluation process is completed.
