Attempted Murder Case Sent To Grand Jury

Charges of attempted murder posted against a Lawrenceburg man in the wake of a stabbing incident, have been turned over for evaluation by a Lawrence County Grand Jury.

William Franklin Stone, 45, was taken into custody the evening of July 19 by officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department after he became engaged in an altercation at a home located at 213C Lawrence Street.

According to Lawrenceburg Police Chief Judy Moore, officers answering the call found victim Derrick Dunkle, age 28, had sustained several stab wounds and was bleeding from the abdominal area. Dunkle was flown by medical helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville following the incident.

Investigation lead officers to arrest Stone at his 215 South Military Avenue home. Stone was booked through the Lawrence County Jail where he has since remained incarcerated.

Stone appeared before Lawrence County General Sessions Judge Patricia McGuire Tuesday for a preliminary hearing. McGuire ordered that the case be bound over to the grand jury for further review. That panel will be tasked with determining whether further legal action is required.
