Hitchhiker Says She Was Assaulted

A woman who hitched a ride with a stranger Wednesday evening later reported to law enforcement officers that she had been assaulted.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were called to the emergency room at Crockett Hospital around 7:30 p.m. to take a report regarding the assault.

The victim, a twenty-four-year-old resident of Lawrenceburg’s Spring Avenue, reported she had set out on foot to walk to a store. She said she had been walking along Old Florence Road when a woman she did not know stopped to give her a ride.

The victim said that the woman drove to a Leoma home and while they were there, another woman she did not know assaulted her. She told deputies she left on foot, but that an elderly motorist stopped to give her a ride.

Reports indicate the victim was struck about the head and was complaining of shoulder pain. Her brother-in-law, she said, had transported her to the hospital.

The matter currently remains under investigation.
