Officials Ask That Residents Keep An Eye On Neighbors’ Properties

There have been numerous crimes reported at Lawrence County homes in recent days, during which witnesses have reported catching sight of the thieves or their vehicles, prompting local law enforcement officials to ask that residents keep an eye on one another’s properties.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Terry Beecham addressed the matter on Wednesday. He pointed out that during the commission of a number of home burglary incidents recently, deputies have been able to uncover witnesses. In many cases, the witnesses reported seeing a specific vehicle parked at the victim’s home, or even noticed that a vehicle was backed up to a home and individuals were loading items into the vehicle.

Beecham requests that residents keep an eye open for such suspicious activity at the homes of neighbors. Should you notice activity at a home when you know your neighbor is likely to be at work, or if you notice individuals loading items at a home, but do not see any of the residents about, you are advised to notify law enforcement officials. Simply placing a 911 call may save your neighbor a lot a grief.

“If you will just call and at least give us a chance to check it out,” Beecham pointed out, “It may enable us to prevent some of these crimes, or maybe even catch a thief in the act.”

“We’re glad to come out and verify that the residents are actually the ones doing the moving,” Beecham concluded.
