Authorities Asked To Investigate Possible Animal Cruelty

Local law enforcement officials were asked to initiate an investigation during the weekend when a concerned citizen became worried that horses at a Lawrenceburg residence might need immediate attention.

After receiving the tip, deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department made their way to the Lillie Lane home around 9:30 Sunday morning. When they arrived, they report finding one of the three horses lying on a pile of barbed wire. According to reports the animal appeared to be in very poor condition.  Deputies stated that all three appeared to be malnourished.

Deputies report that there was no grass in the pasture and that they were able to locate only three bales of hay. Also, they found that there was no water available in the horses’ water trough.

When deputies confronted the owner, she stated that she had only purchased the more sickly horse three weeks before and it was “in bad health.” Deputies advised the owner to seek immediate veterinary care for the animal. The owner agreed to do so.

Deputies returned to the farm around 4:00 p.m. to check on the animal’s well being. At that time the owner indicated she had obtained medication for the horse from a veterinarian.

Investigation into the matter is on-going at the current time.
