Lawrenceburg Woman Indicted On Vehicular Homicide In March Deaths

A Lawrence County Grand Jury has issued multiple indictments against a local woman in connection with a March automobile crash that claimed the lives of a Lawrenceburg couple.

According to a press release issued through the Lawrenceburg Police Department Friday afternoon, Misti Lane Risner, age 36, of Lawrenceburg, was indicted on two counts of reckless endangerment and two counts of vehicular homicide.

Risner was involved in a crash on West Gaines Street on March 17 in the vicinity of David Crockett State Park.

Reports filed through the Tennessee Highway Patrol showed that victims Clyde Ray Newton, 66, and wife Willodean Carmie Newton, age 62, were traveling eastbound on a motorcycle when they came to a stop behind some vehicles. Risner, eastbound behind the Newtons, reportedly failed to stop, striking the rear of the motorcycle.

Her vehicle continued into the westbound lane where she struck another vehicle head-on. Both Newtons died as the result of injuries they sustained in the crash.

Detectives with the police department’s Criminal Investigation Division presented evidence to the grand jury on Monday. The panel returned the indictments on Friday.

Detectives report that Risner was taken into custody at her place of employment in Pulaski. She was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where she was incarcerated under a bond of $100,000.
