Victim Reports Friday Crash Was Intentional

A woman involved in an automobile crash on West Gaines Street Friday evening reported to policemen that her husband’s mistress had rear-ended her, then threatened her while wielding a machete.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department received the call to the area just west of the Buffalo Road intersection at 8:35 p.m.

When they arrived, they report the two female drivers were involved in a verbal altercation, and that one claimed the other had wielded a weapon. Both, they reported, were agitated and aggressive.

One driver told officers the other woman “is having sex with her husband and wants to fight her.” She told officers when the other woman saw her driving, she turned around and got behind her, striking her from behind. She stated that the woman had then wielded a machete while making threatening statements.

When they questioned the other woman, she told officers she did not have a machete, but that she did have a wooden club in her car “that she kept for protection,” as well as a switchblade in her purse.

The other driver denied having caused the crash. She told officers the woman had “slammed on her brakes intentionally to cause her vehicle to impact” the other one.

Officers report there was little damage to either vehicle and that both drivers declined a wreck report. They were advised to stay away from one another. The wife was also advised about how to go about prosecuting the other woman for assault.

The club and switchblade were seized, and the woman, Melanie Kaye Enochs, 42, of Clearview Avenue, was issued a citation charging her with two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon. She is scheduled to answer the charge through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on August 20, 2010.
