The Maury County fire department assisted in a rescue after a teen fell from a cliff that ended in tragedy.

 

The Maury County fire department shared on their page that on Tuesday around 10:17 a.m. they were dispatched to assist in the rescue of a 17 year old girl who had fallen from a cliff beside a river where the caller could not visibly see the victim.

The MCFD along with responding units: Rescue 1, Squad 1, Car 10, District Chief 1, Columbia Fire department, Rescue Boat 1 on mutual aid, SHFD Safety Officer, Lawrence County Rope Strike Team on mutual aid, TWRA Officers with two boats, Maury EMS, MCSO, and Maury County OEM all responded to lend aid in the rescue.

The Maury County Fire department stated that Rescue 1 along with an off duty Nashville Firefighter who were familiar with the trail packed in their rope to the location where a high angle system was assembled in preparation for a repel.

Tommy Edwards an officer with Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency arrived with a second team that entered a small cave system at the rivers edge where tragically the 17 year old victim was discovered deceased.

The Maury County Fire department spoke on the rescue by saying, "Although the outcome was not what we had hoped, we are grateful for our partner agencies who quickly and professionally responded to assist us with a difficult operation."
