Testimony Reveals Slain Orthodontist Shot Repeatedly With Handgun And Shotgun

Testimony given during a motions hearing this week revealed that an orthodontist murdered inside her Brentwood home in April, was shot repeatedly with both a handgun and a shotgun.

Dr. Rachel Maidens, 34, and granddaughter of Lawrenceburg resident Neal Frisbie, was found dead inside her Governor’s Club home on April 21, law enforcement officials testified Monday.

They said she was found lying beneath a comforter in the living room and had sustained a total of ten gunshot wounds; 8 from a .9 mm handgun and two from a shotgun.

The victim’s two-year-old daughter was inside the home at the time of her murder, but authorities said she was physically unharmed. Husband, Randolph C. “Randy” Maidens, age 42, was apprehended after an overnight manhunt conducted in the area that surrounds the home.

Randy Maidens was jailed under a $2.5 million bond, on charges that include criminal homicide, two counts of tampering with evidence, and child neglect. He pleaded not guilty to all charges during a court appearance last month.

Maidens was released from jail in June after his bond was lowered to $750,000. Conditions of his release require that he wear a GPS tracking device at all times. His movement is limited to Davidson and Williamson counties.

Although during a civil hearing Monday a judge ruled that Maidens be allowed to return to his home, authorities report that he is prevented from doing so by the conditions of his bond.

Maidens is next scheduled to appear in court in connection with the criminal charges on November 12, 2013. He is additionally named in a wrongful death lawsuit brought by the victim’s mother, who serves as administrator of her daughter’s estate.
