Local National Guard Scheduled For Lengthy Deployment In Afghanistan

Members of the local National Guard unit have been scheduled for a deployment to Afghanistan that is slated to last for nearly a year.

On Thursday, Captain William Anderson apprised members of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Council of the details of the eleven-month deployment.

Anderson said that a group nearing one hundred will deploy to Afghanistan on August 7. While some members of the company reside in other counties, he said the majority are local residents.

He told officials that the unit will be tasked with providing ground cover, a duty for which they have been training for the past two years.

Preliminary plans are being made for a parade to be held the evening of August 5 in honor of the company. In addition, officials encourage residents to turn out along the travel route at 8:00 a.m. on August 7, in a show of support.

The company will travel to Nashville, then on to Fort Bliss. Additional details are expected be released in coming days.
