Wayne Man Charged With Injecting Local With Near-Lethal Dose Of Heroine

A Wayne County man was incarcerated last week after he allegedly injected a Lawrenceburg woman with a near-lethal dose of heroine.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that Robert Scott Gibbs, 46, of 221 Wildberry Lane, Collinwood, was booked through the Lawrence County Detention Center on charges of delivery of a Schedule I controlled substance (heroine).

Police Officers report they were summoned to Crockett Hospital on July 18 after the victim’s twelve-year-old son found her lying unresponsive inside their home. He quickly summoned help from neighbors and ensured that his mother obtained immediate medical attention.

Reports show that once Gibbs was identified as the suspect, he was jailed by Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputies on an outstanding failure to appear warrant issued through Lawrence County courts. Local officers then made their way to Wayne County to retrieve him for questioning.

Gibbs allegedly confessed that he had injected the Fourth Street woman with ten units of heroine after which she “went unconscious” and stopped breathing. He said that he initiated CPR and poured ice down her pants. He said that she began breathing once again and he left her there.

Officers report the victim at first claimed she had been injected against her will, but later recanted saying that she had requested he do so.

Gibbs was incarcerated without bond. He is scheduled for an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on August 5, 2011.
