Intoxicated Resident Enters Wrong Apartment

Law enforcement officers were summoned to intervene during the weekend after a couple reported an intoxicated man had entered their home, believing it to be his own.

The couple, residents of 14 Good Hope Road, reported they had heard a noise outside their apartment. They looked out to find a man attempting to unlock their door using his own keys.

The male victim told officers he opened the door to ask the man what he was doing. He said the man pushed his way inside, striking him with the door then stated, “I’m at my house.” The victim said he had to ask repeatedly before the man left, leaving his keys hanging in the door lock.

The victims told officers the man was dressed in blue jean shorts, with no shirt. After asking about officers were able to obtain the identity of a suspect and made their way to his apartment.

Officers noted that the man was in an extremely intoxicated state at the time of the incident. Since the man had believed he was in his own apartment and there appeared to be no intent to trespass, no charges were filed at that time. Officers did indicate, however, that they may pursue assault charges against the man for striking the resident with the door.
