Woman Awakes To Find Prowler Standing Over Her

An Ethridge woman reported to law enforcement officers last week that she awoke in the early morning hours Thursday to find a prowler standing over her bed.

The victim, a forty-seven-year-old resident of Lyndon Lane in Ethridge, summoned Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies to her home shortly before 2:00 a.m.

The victim told deputies that she had exited her place of employment around 10:30 p.m. to find her ex-brother-in-law’s car had overheated. She told deputies that she was speaking with another man in the parking lot and that she and her former brother-in-law became engaged in a verbal confrontation.

Later, when she arrived home, the victim reports that she noticed the man’s car was parked behind her house. She told deputies that his car had again overheated. She stated that she went inside, got everyone to bed, then went to bed and slept.

It was shortly before 2:00 a.m., the victim reported, when she was awakened by her barking dog. When she opened her eyes, she said she found that her former brother-in-law was standing over her, holding a sledge hammer.

The victim told deputies that they struggled over the sledge hammer, but that she was eventually able to wrestle it away from him – however not before it struck her in the mouth. She told deputies she was able to push him out of her home, but that he came back in a second time. He allegedly told her at that point that he had cut her telephone line.

After foisting him from her home a second time, the victim stated that she used her cell phone to place a 911 call to summon assistance.

Deputies reported finding marks around the door and indicated that the telephone lines had been pulled from the box.

At the present time the matter remains under investigation, however reports show that not all questions have yet been answered in connection with the matter.
