Zoning Change To Allow Relocation Of Pizza Hut

Leaders of the City of Lawrenceburg approve a zoning change last week that will allow for the relocation of the Lawrenceburg Pizza Hut.

Members of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Commissioners voted to approve the rezoning ordinance on first reading Thursday evening. The ordinance provides for the rezoning of a parcel of property situated near the North Locust/Howard Street intersection from Commercial-2 to Commercial-3.

Lawrenceburg’s Acting City Administrator Ken Hinson explained that the property is the location of the former Dan’s Home Improvement business, between Roy Smith Tires and The Bridal and Formal Shop. The structure is slated for demolition. Afterwards, a new Pizza Hut will be constructed on the site.

City of Lawrenceburg Codes Director Ken Nelson pointed out that the former designation of Commercial-2 required a 55-foot front setback. The change to the Commercial-3 designation will allow for construction with a front set back of only 40-feet. This, Nelson explained, will allow for construction, without pushing the structure to the rear of the property, which would interfere with a power line easement.

A public hearing on the matter will be held during the commission’s August 16 meeting. Second reading of the ordinance is slated to follow.
