Domestic Incidents Involving Guns Result In Criminal Charges

Law enforcement officials have been kept busy in past days, investigating domestic violence incidents that involved one party pulling a handgun on the other.

In one such incident, Michael Keith Huskey, age 31, of 86 Dunn Road, Leoma, was arrested no multiple charges after he allegedly pointed a handgun at his estranged wife while she was holding their two-year-old daughter.

The victim reported that the incident occurred Saturday, July 14, when she went to pick up her daughter after visitation with her husband. The victim, indicated that when the victim entered the house, Huskey pushed her down and they began to argue. During the argument he allegedly went outside, returning with the handgun. The victim, as well as other witnesses, reported that Huskey then pointed the gun at the victim while she held their daughter, and threatened to kill her.

When deputies recovered the gun at a nearby residence, they report that it was loaded with ten rounds, including one in the chamber. Warrants were obtained, and Huskey was arrested on charges that include:  theft of property, theft of a motor vehicle (prior warrants), aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and violation of an order of protection. He will answer the charges through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on July 23.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department responded to 268 Mt. Lebanon Road where the 25-year-old male victim reported he had been playing with his young son around 12:34 Tuesday, when his wife began accusing him of cheating on her with another woman. He told deputies that she entered the room and pulled a .40 caliber handgun from her side and pointed it at him while he was playing with the youngster. At that point, he reported, she made threats to kill him, and pulled the trigger. The gun, which was not loaded, clicked while pointed at him.

The couple separated for the night, but the argument continued the following day. When the couple began arguing over the keys to their vehicle, the female reports that her husband grabbed her hand and bent her finger back. She then called for help.

As a result of the investigation, both were placed under arrest and transported to the Lawrence County Jail. Brianna Leigh Kelly, 22, was charged with aggravated assault, while her husband, Curt Wade Kelly, was charged with domestic violence. Both are scheduled to answer the charge through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on August 13.

Shortly before 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Lawrenceburg Police Officers were dispatched on a similar call. They were sent to intervene in an assault incident at the parking lot of Sullivan’s Home and Auto, 900 North Military Avenue. There, Michael Waldrop, 43, of 4407 Highway 43, Ethridge, was placed under arrest on charges of aggravated assault, domestic violence and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.

The victim, age 52, reported that she and her husband had become involved in an argument, and that Waldrop had pulled a pistol and threatened to kill her. He was gone upon the arrival of law enforcement officers.

Officers report they made contact with Waldrop on Massey Avenue, where they served the warrant against him. Waldrop allegedly told officers that he had a blue steel, .22 caliber automatic handgun, and that he had thrown it into a wooded area at the rear of the Sulivan’s building.
