Summertown 11& 12s Are Tennessee State Champions

Rodney Bailey

Ok here is the quick version as i can remember it. After only scoring 2 runs in the first inning the Eagles were down 5-2.

The first two batters would record the first two outs of the sixth inning. Brady Huntley would start the inning after two outs with a line drive into center field. Dawson Busby would hit a triple into right field scoring Huntley.

Brady Brown hit a hard ground ball to short and... the short stop bobbled allowing Brown to reach. Now 5-4 Brown was at second base when Ashtin Lacy would get a 0-2 count.

Ashtin fouled off three pitches before he finally hit a sharp line drive double into center field that hit the diving center fielder on the arm. This allowed Ashtin to reach second.

Logan Parrott was next up and now the score was 5-5. Parrott would strike out but the catcher couldn't handle the curve ball as it bounced in the dirt behind the plate.

Logan was quick to see the dropped ball and raced to first! Lacy was racing home from second as the ball bounced into right field on the overthrow from the catcher to first.

Lacy would score the go ahead run from second and Parrott would make it all the way to third. That's all the Eagles would do on offense in the inning.

Jerimiah Cottrell would take the mound in the bottom of the sixth. A quick out of the first batter and then a walk to the next batter allowed Lebanons first base runner with one out.

Lebanon had a lot of respect for the arm of the catching Ambrose and chose to let the batter hit the runner around the bases instead of attempting a steal.

That would cost Lebanon the game.

A sharp hit ground ball back to the pitcher Cottrell allowed him to spin around and complete the 1-6-3 DOUBLE PLAY to end the game!!!!

State Champs and scored four runs after two outs to do it!!!!!
