Neighbor Watches Pair Vandalize Mailbox

A Glenn Springs Road resident reported to authorities last week that he had watched as two jovial males vandalized his neighbor’s mailbox.

The victim, age 40, told deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Thursday that her neighbor had notified her of the damages.

The neighbor reported that at around 3:30 a.m. he heard a noise outside and went out to investigate. He said that he watched two males, who he described as being in their late teens or early 20s, pull up in front of his apartment in a light grey Jeep.

He told deputies that the young men exited the vehicle and started kicking the victim’s mailbox.

The neighbor said the young men pulled the post out of the ground, placed the mailbox in the middle of the street, then got back into the Jeep and drove over it.

He said that they backed over the mailbox, then drove over it again. He told deputies he could hear the young men laughing as they drove away.

The neighbor told deputies that he had seen the vehicle driving in the area for approximately two weeks. He said that the driver often sounded the horn at around 2:00 a.m.

The victim estimated that damages totaled $170. At the present time the case remains under investigation through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
