Scrappers Charged With Defacing Antique Vehicles

Three individuals have been charged with stripping parts from antique vehicles belonging to a Beasley Road resident, and selling them to a scrap metal business.

Lawrenceburg Police Officers were summoned to the premises by the resident when he caught them in the process of making off with a third load of metal around 2:30 Thursday afternoon.

The resident told officers that he had noticed a truck on his property and had gone to investigate. When he arrived, he found that the trio was removing various metals from a scrap pile in the edge of the woods, as well as stripping parts from his 1964 American Rambler and his 1965 Chevrolet Impala.

By the time officers arrived on the scene, they report the men had removed the items from the bed of their truck. They told officers they did not know who owned the property. They indicated they had already taken two truck loads of scrap metal and car parts to Grimes Recycling on U.S. Highway 64 before they were confronted by the resident.

Officers indicate that the hood, radiator and engine parts had been removed from the Rambler. In the process the men had reportedly busted the windshield and caused body damage to the cab and door. The trunk lid had been removed from the Impala.

Total loss and damages as a result of the crime were estimated at $5,450.00.

As a result of the investigation officers placed Charles Dwayne Jackson, 40, of 1707 Mahr Avenue, under arrest on charges of theft, vandalism and criminal trespass. Arrested on the same charges was Brandon Jamal Palmer, age 20. Both are slated to answer the charges through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on August 7, 2008.

In addition, reports indicate that a juvenile, age 17, was issued citations, charging him with the crimes as well. He will be required to answer his charges through Lawrence County Juvenile Court.
