Identity Thief Gains Control Of Locals PayPal Account
A West Point woman discovered Tuesday that someone had fraudulently gained access to her PayPal account and had been using it, without her knowledge, to make purchases.
Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that the victim, a thirty-three year old resident of West Point, reported someone had changed the password to her account, gaining access to its usage. Several purchases, she said, had been made before she became aware of the situation.
The victim told deputies that officials with her bank were also conducting an investigation into the matter, as the PayPal account was tied to her bank account. She said that all her cards and accounts associated with the PayPal account, had been canceled.
The matter has been turned over for further investigation by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
