Lawrenceburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Thursday morning that injured a local man.

 

According to the Lawrenceburg Fire Department they were dispatched on Thursday around 10:30 a.m. to a structure fire at a property on Freedom Street.

Upon arrival firefighters stated they encountered a "heavily involved structure fire with a neighboring structure less than 20 feet away."

The crews were able to quickly get the fire under control as to prevent from the flames spreading to neighboring properties.

The Lawrence County EMS was called to the scene to administer treatment to a man that had received first and second degree burns as a result of the fire where he then was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center.

During the investigation into the cause of the fire it was ruled a accident where the man had been sharpening a lawn mower blade with a bench grinder that then ignited with vapors that was coming from a nearby gasoline container that resulted in a combustion process.

The Lawrenceburg Fire Department addressed the situation by encouraging everyone to always use caution when conducting hot work that may produce sparks or embers.
