Auto Burglary Reported In West Point

A resident of West Point summoned law enforcement officials to his home early Tuesday after he discovered someone had burglarized his vehicle and stolen his motorcycle.

Jeffrey Wade Kilburn reported the incident through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department shortly before 2:30 a.m. He told deputies that he looked out when he heard his dogs barking, only to find the light on inside his truck.

Kilburn told deputies that when he opened the door, he heard the sound of footsteps, as if someone were running from his yard. He indicated that he stepped back inside and called for assistance.

When he again ventured out to check the premises, he said he discovered that his motorcycle was missing from behind the residence. The perpetrator, deputies report, had unsuccessfully attempted to pry open the glove box of Kilburn’s truck, and had stolen two $1 bills and another dollar’s worth of loose change.

Shortly after deputies left the scene, Kilburn notified them that he had located his motorcycle lying beside the roadway, a short distance from his home.

Loss in the case is estimated to be $53.00. Investigation continues at the current time.
