TVA Announces Adjustment For August Power Bills

Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) officials have announced that a fuel cost adjustment will result in an increase of between $.50 and $1.00 on residential power bills this month, depending upon individual customer usage levels.

TVA indicates that the increase is primarily due to higher expenses associated with coal and purchased power used to supplement demand during the month of June.

This cost is in addition to an increase of up to $6 per residential customer TVA put into place to recoup costs associated with severe weather in April. Severe storms caused damages to the transmission system at TVA’s Brown’s Ferry Nuclear Plant. All three reactors at the plant were shutdown for several weeks so that repairs could be made.

TVA indicates costs associated with supplementing the power demand during that time period was approximately $90 million.
