Inmate Charged In Assault At Jail

An inmate at the Lawrence County Jail was issued additional charges during the weekend when he allegedly assaulted another inmate.

Reports filed through the sheriff’s department show that the incident occurred around 5:15 Sunday afternoon.

A corrections officer reports that while he was serving a meal to inmates, he noticed an altercation. He reported that inmate Joseph Lee Hill, age 34, had pinned another inmate against a rail and was hitting him.

He said that the victim was being pushed into the rail to the point that he was in danger of falling over it.

The officer called for assistance and three other corrections officers quickly responded. They were able to stop the fight and separate the inmates. The victim was placed in a cell while Hill was placed on lockdown for a period of fourteen days.

A warrant was issued charging Hill with one count of assault. He is scheduled to answer the charge in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on August 6, 2013.
