Corrections Officer Finds Drugs Concealed Inside Clothing
A criminal investigation was undertaken earlier this month after a corrections officer discovered an attempt to smuggle drugs that had been concealed inside of items of clothing, into the local jail.
The crime was uncovered on July 3 when a corrections officer at the Lawrence County Detention Center was inspecting clothing that had been brought in by a family member for a specific inmate.
The officer reports that he first became suspicious when he noticed a small hole in the sleeve of a thermal shirt. Through further scrutiny he found that pieces of what appeared to be Xanax bars had been concealed inside. He found that drugs had been concealed inside a pair of thermal pants, as well.
The officer notified his superiors of the discovery. The items were photographed and placed into evidence storage. Charges of introduction of drugs into a penal institution are expected to be issued.
