Preliminary Hearing Is Tuesday For Man Accused Of Killing Brother

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for next week for a Lawrenceburg man accused of killing his brother during an argument over a four wheeler.

Larry Durrett, 31, of 898 Weakley Creek Road, was arrested on one count of first degree murder on Saturday, June 21, 2008. Durrett was accused of fatally shooting his brother, Dwight Durrett, outside their mother’s 896 Weakley Creek Road home. Authorities reported that Dwight Durrett, 29, of 5424 Gimlet Road, Lawrenceburg, died as the result of a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Authorities indicated that the brothers had become involved in an argument over a four wheeler around 1:45 a.m. They had allegedly argued because Dwight had ridden a four wheeler belonging to Larry’s girlfriend and gotten it stuck in the mud.

Larry Durrett told law enforcement officials he was attempting to get his brother to leave when the argument escalated and a .410 shotgun was produced. He reportedly stated that he had not meant to shoot his brother, but was only trying to make him leave.

Since his arrest, Durrett has been incarcerated without bond through the Lawrence County Jail.

A preliminary hearing on the matter has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 22, 2008, in Lawrence County General Sessions Court.
