Additional Changes In Courthouse Parking Are Imminent

As construction progresses on a new jail adjacent to the Lawrence County Courthouse, officials urge residents to exercise caution, and patience, in regards to parking and obstructions.

Parking at the courthouse has become more and more difficult as construction has progressed. Although the main parking lot on Perry Street has been completely closed due to the construction, new parking lots have been constructed at the rear of the courthouse, just north of Centennial Boulevard, and at the southwest corner of the courthouse property, near the sheriff’s department.

With the current construction constraints, officials remind residents that, in order to access the main entrance, they must use the sidewalk at the front of the courthouse, near West Gaines Street. Entrance may also be made through the sheriff’s department.

Meanwhile, construction crews are working diligently to complete a small patch of new parking spaces on the southeast corner of the property, as well as to resurface a portion of the main parking lot.
