Grant Funds To Cover Police Department Equipment

Grant funds have been secured by the Lawrenceburg Police Department that will bring needed equipment into the department at little cost to taxpayers.

Members of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Council approved a resolution during their business meeting Thursday morning, allowing the department to enter into the grant agreement.

Under the agreement the department will receive Bureau of Justice Assistance Solicitation Grant monies in the amount of $10,778.

The resolution stipulates that the funds will go toward the purchase of a repeater radio and a voice stress analyzer.

The combined purchase price for both items is $13,151. Utilizing the grant funds will allow the department to purchase both while paying only the remaining amount of $2,373.

Assistance Police Chief Daren Goosby told council members that voice stress analysis is an important tool during interrogations and that the department has been utilizing it for quite some time.

Since the department does not currently possess such equipment, Goolsby said they must either transport individuals to Franklin or have someone bring a unit to Lawrenceburg in order to take advantage of the technology.

The purchase cost of the voice stress analysis system includes the hardware and software needed as well as all related training for two operators.
