Council Approves Purchase Of Giant Vac Leaf Loader

City of Lawrenceburg leaders have approved a purchase they expect will considerably cut man hours expended on keeping city streets clean.

The Lawrenceburg City Council voted Thursday to approve the purchase of a Giant Vac Self Contained Leaf Loader from local industry InSyte Solutions, Inc. The local company offered the lowest bid on the purchase of the vacuum system at $21,750.

The machinery will be used by the Lawrenceburg Street Department to pick up leaves and litter from streets and gutters.

Street Department Superintendent Jerry Smith pointed out to council members, “This will come in especially handy in the fall, but it can be used anytime to clean gutters full of trash.”

City Administrator William McLain agreed, saying, “We don’t have to wait until fall of the year. There’re places today we can use it.”

When residents rake leaves from their yards, they are instructed to place them at the curbside for pickup. Street department workers expend much effort on picking up the leaves manually, then loading them into trucks.

The leaves also pose some problems to the city’s drainage system as they often clog storm drains. Leaders feel that the purchase will alleviate much of the problem and allow employees more time to tend to other jobs.

Funding for the purchase has already been allocated. Leaders expect to make the purchase in coming weeks, and have the machine at their disposal when autumn arrives.
