Market Robber Makes Off With $11

A man who stole money from a Lawrenceburg market over the weekend reportedly garnered only about eleven dollars for his efforts.

A clerk at Quik Stop #202, located at 300 West Gaines Street, summoned Lawrenceburg Police Officers to the store just after 3:30 a.m. Saturday regarding the theft.

The clerk told officers that the perpetrator had first come inside the store to purchase gasoline. He then reportedly asked to use the telephone. Afterwards, the clerk said the man walked out of the building.

The clerk told officers that he left the counter area briefly to walk to the kitchen. When he returned to the counter, he said he saw the same man behind the counter on his knees.

The clerk told officers that the man had money clutched in one hand and two cartons of Kool brand cigarettes lying on the floor beside him. When he saw the clerk the man fled, leaving the cigarettes behind. Officials estimate that the suspect made off with only eleven dollars.

The entire incident was captured on the store’s security surveillance system. The recording has been turned over to detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division for further review.
