Lawrence County Proposes To Use Community Development Block Grant Funds And Local Funds To Extend Waterline

Along portions of 1) Adair Road, 2) Gillespie Road, 3) Shackleford Road 4) Richardson Road, 5) looming Grove/Revilo Road, 6) Jonestown Road, and 7) Gimlet Road.

Residents who live along these roads are in desperate need of a safe, dependable water source. The proposed project will serve 224 Lawrence County citizens if the grant is approved.

Grant funds will help the county cover the cost of remodeling the courthouse which now houses all court-related offices.

The modifications will result in the most efficient utilization of space for the offices of General Sessions, Circuit and Chancery courts.

The Lawrence County Ambulance Service’s fourth crew was restored to better serve all county residents and an Ambulance Station opened in Ethridge ( at no cost to taxpayers) to provide for quicker response times for citizens in the Northern Lawrence County.

The county purchased the Child Advocacy Center’s building and moved the Budget Office there and is relocation the Election Commission to the former Budget Office.

This eliminates the county having to pay lease payments for the Election Commission, saving the county tens of thousands of dollars.

The proposed 2011-2012 budget includes 1,000 additional dollars in funding to help each of the county volunteer fire departments offset insurance increases.

County Executive J. Mack Chandler says he hops the county will be able to keep the extra dollars in the budget because of the valuable services department volunteers provide during fires, natural disasters and other emergencies.

County Leaders have worked hard to cut the budget in order to avoid a property tax increase.  Chandler says the government is working hard to live within its means, especially during these tough economic times.
