Relay For Life Supporters Want to Paint Lawrence County Purple

Purple is becoming the color of choice in Lawrence County as excitement builds for Relay For Life 2009.

Paint Lawrence County Purple is the goal of a campaign being led by supporters of the American Cancer Society.

Purple bows will adorn storefronts, mailboxes, and doorknobs starting now and continuing until August 8, the date of the 2009 Relay For Life of Lawrence County at Lawrenceburg’s Rotary Park.

Donations are being accepted now for purple bows at $10 each. Bows are available from any Relay For Life team member. All proceeds support the American Cancer Society.

Relay For Life is an overnight event honoring cancer survivors and remembering those who have lost their battle with cancer. Events will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 8 and continue until 6 a.m. on Sunday, August 9.

Cancer survivors and caregivers will take the first laps at Relay, followed on the track by teams which have been working to earn donations for the American Cancer Society.

At 9 p.m. a special luminaria ceremony will take place to honor cancer survivors and remember those who have lost their battle with the disease.

Entertainment and games will take place throughout the evening and there will be a variety of food available.  The public is invited to join the event and help local teams support the work of the American Cancer Society.
