Suspect In Assault Issued Drug Charges During Traffic Stop

Drug charges were issued against a Summertown man Tuesday evening after law enforcement officers identified him as the suspect in a domestic assault.

A report filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department shows that deputies initiated a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 43 North around 8:30 p.m., after they identified the driver as the suspect in a domestic altercation that had occurred just hours prior.

During the course of the traffic stop, deputies report discovering that driver Joshua Dale Sears, age 33, had marijuana and items of drug paraphernalia on his person.

While conducting a search of his vehicle, deputies report seizing additional marijuana along with methamphetamine and components used to manufacture meth.

Also seized were Sears’ car and $173 believed to be the proceeds of illegal drug transactions.

Sears was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center. He was booked on charges of initiation of a process to manufacture meth, promotion of meth manufacturing, possession of marijuana for the purpose of resale, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $98,000.

Sears was scheduled an initial General Sessions Court appearance on August 20, 2013.
