Restaurant Manager Discovers Stranger Burglarizing Car

A manager of a local restaurant summoned law enforcement officers to the business during the weekend after she discovered a stranger had broken into her car.

The woman requested that officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department be dispatched to KFC, 1950 North Locust Avenue, shortly after 10:30 Saturday night.

The manager was able to detain the man. She said she had looked out to find him in the parking lot, rummaging through her 2002 Pontiac Grand Am. The victim said that she confronted him, reached into his pocket and found five $20 bills he had stolen from her purse.

Officers report the suspect, Richard Ellis Stevenson, 21, of 108 Marable Road, told them he had committed the crime because “a friend of his told him to.” Reports note that Stevenson had a strong odor of alcohol about him and that he appeared to be intoxicated.

Stevenson was arrested on charges of burglary, theft and public intoxication, then transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center. He is scheduled for an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on August 5, 2011.
