Vehicle reported as stolen found wrecked and abandoned

Lawrenceburg Now

A vehicle that was reported stolen by the owner last week was found wrecked and abandoned by law enforcement officers.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department reports show that a deputy was dispatched to the victim’s Gobble Lane home. The resident reported that he had been away from his home overnight. He said when he returned he discovered that his Volkswagen Passat was missing. He said the doors had not been locked, and the key was stuck in the ignition. He estimated the value of the car at $1,000.

While the deputy was speaking with the victim a card was found on the front porch instructing the resident to call Troopers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The deputy placed a call and was informed that the victim’s car had been found wrecked and abandoned on Wayland Springs Road in Iron City. Damages were estimated at approximately $500.

Investigation in the matter is on-going at the present time.
