Victim Says Ex Stole, Pawned Her Property

A Loretto resident filed a complaint with law enforcement personnel this week, reporting that her ex-husband had stolen items from her home then pawned them.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were tasked with investigating the matter on Monday.

The victim reported that the theft occurred on Wednesday, July 3 after her ex-husband had taken their children for a scheduled visit. She said that he had gained permission to go to her house in her absence and allow the children to change clothes.

While they were at the house, the children reported seeing their father go into the victim’s bedroom and rummage through her belongings. They said that after leaving their home he visited a local pawn shop, then a local business that specializes in the purchase of scrap gold.

Once her children told her about the incident, the victim said she checked her belongings. She discovered that three rings and a camera had gone missing.

She reported that she was able to locate her camera at the pawn shop. She told deputies that she had questioned employees at the scrap gold business about whether they had purchased her rings, but that they refused to give her any information.

The victim’s loss is estimated to total $760. Investigation into the crime is currently continuing through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
