Community To Show The Power Of Purple

Purple will become the color of choice in Lawrence County as the community gears up to fight cancer for the 2010 Relay For Life.

Paint Lawrence County Purple is the goal of a campaign being led by supporters of the American Cancer Society. Purple yard signs and bows will adorn homes and businesses throughout Lawrence County starting now and continuing until August 7, the date of the 2010 Relay For Life of Lawrence County at Lawrenceburg’s Rotary Park.

Donations are being accepted now for purple “We Relay” yard signs and purple bows. Supporters can obtain a sign and a bow for a $10 donation from any Relay For Life team member. All proceeds support the American Cancer Society.

Relay For Life is an overnight event honoring cancer survivors and remembering those who have lost their battle with cancer.

Events will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 7 and continue until 6 a.m. on Sunday, August 8. Cancer survivors and caregivers will take the first laps at Relay, followed by teams which have been working throughout the year to earn donations for the American Cancer Society.

At 9 p.m. a special luminaria ceremony will take place to honor cancer survivors and remember those who have lost their battle with the disease. Entertainment and games will take place throughout the evening and there will be a variety of food available. The public is invited to join the event and help local teams support the work of the American Cancer Society.
