Summertown High Baseball Player Is MVP

The Tennessee Baseball Report has named recent Summertown High School graduate and Vol State signee Clint Gobbell as its Most Valuable Player for the 2009 season.

The 2009 All TBR Team report, which was released in recent days, recognizes the Summertown shortstop as the state’s high school baseball MVP and the state’s homerun leader.

Gobbell batted .536 for the Summertown Eagles, the team which captured the TSSAA Class-A Baseball Championship. Gobbell had an r.b.i. count of 90, which is the second most in Tennessee history.  Gobbell had 157 total bases and led the state in homeruns, with 19.  He also topped the state’s triple board with 11.  Gobbell stole 23 bases and walked 35 times.

Gobbell graduated from Summertown in May and has signed with Volunteer State in Gallatin to continue his baseball career.

Gobbell joins two of his Summertown teammates on the TBR Class A-AA First Team. Logan Harville and K.J. Roberts were also recognized with membership on the team. 

Roberts, an outfielder, held the state’s second highest batting average of .558, had 76 runs with 67 base hits, 17 doubles and 8 triples. Roberts had 59 r.b.i.’s with 33 stolen bases. He led the state in walks at 49.    

Harville, who graduated in May and played infield and pitcher for the Eagles, had a batting average of .533, with 61 runs scored. He had 65 base hits and 5 triples.  Harville had 11 homers.
